Last week I had a doctors appointment and while sitting in the doctors office I picked up a magazine and started reading an interesting article.
The article was about Sheryl Sandberg who is the #2 in charge of Facebook. The article depicts Mrs.Sandberg as one of the brightest, and most talented business people in Corporate America.
The article also mentioned how well connected Mrs. Sandberg was in the business community. Most every female corporate executive knows who she is and nearly every male executive knows her as well.
She’s extremely connected in the political world as well, in that the majority of her initial work experiences were in government positions.
But there’s one thing in that article that I can’t get out of my head after reading it.
What Shocked Me The Most About Sheryl Sandberg
Sheryl Sandberg is the #2 person in charge of the largest social media website in the world.
I mean, if anyone should have a following and use social media tools to reach out and create a connection with their peers using social media, it should be Sheryl Sandberg.
Right?
Well, I was shocked when I read in the article that Mrs. Sandberg has a monthly networking meeting in her home in for women who are leaders in Silicon Valley.
The event is simply called, “Women In Silicon Valley.”

I thought it was very interesting that a social media mogul like Mrs. Sandberg would have physical networking meetings in her home on a monthly basis.
This Drives Home a Very Important Point For YOU!
Social networking is awesome and you CAN get to know a lot of people online, BUT it will NEVER replace physically meeting people, looking in their eyes and shaking their hands.
Mrs. Sandberg knows this and YOU should too.
You should make a list of the people that you want to get to know in your industry or local area and start strategically networking with those people. Put yourself in places where you’ll get a chance to meet them. Ask them to lunch to get to know them better.
Create your OWN networking group and invite people you’d like to get to know.
That’s what I did here in Houston. It’s called the Houston Mastermind Group and it’s made up of a bunch of very well respected internet marketers who live in the local area.
